Crawford Ancestors in Cumberland Co, Kentucky

Author: Jim Crawford (jim@craw.us or jlcraw@aol.com). Last updated February 4, 2005

This web page has information pertaining to the family of John Crawford, who moved to Cumberland Co, Ky. in 1790 from Cumberland Co, Pa. He died in 1813, leaving his wife Martha (Robinson) Crawford, and several children, all of whom seem to have moved to Missouri by 1933. There are still several loose ends relating to the family, so this document's main purpose is to contain as much of the raw data as I have pertaining to the Crawfords in Cumberland County, Kentucky.

The only history book that I know of that contains any reference to John Crawford in Cumberland Co, Kentucky is the "History of Cumberland County". by J. W. Wells, 1947. This is an excellent book for background information on the history of this area. I have transcribed the excerpts from this book that are most relevant to the Crawfords.

1790 & 1800 US Census for Kentucky were irretrievably burned; the 1800 Census was partially reconstructed from the 1799 Tax Lists (see the Wells book for John Crawford's entry in the Tax List)
